FAQ:MangaDex Website
More actions
There are multiple reasons that MangaDex may be inaccessible. This entry is intended to provide information about common causes, including how to identify and potentially correct some of the more common ones.
Because of the wide variety of operating systems, browsers, plugins/extensions, internet service providers (ISPs), and other factors, it is impossible for us to provide information about every possible cause for MangaDex being inaccessible. In some cases, it may be possible to receive help in the #support channel of the MangaDex Discord, but bear in mind that most of the MangaDex staff are volunteers and not every issue can be resolved successfully. Please be patient.

MangaDex is up but inaccessible to you
If the error you receive is along the lines of "The domain mangadex.org cannot be found/is unreachable", "The connection/request to mangadex.org has been refused/timed out", or something similar that suggests your network believes the site does not exist or cannot be reached, a likely cause is that some part of the network between you and MangaDex is blocking your access. This is further suggested if multiple devices on your network see similar errors of this sort.
The following countries/ISPs are known to have blocks in place:
- Telkom Indonesia (IndiHome, Telkomsel, etc.)
- Italy
- Russia
- Verizon (may not be effective due to MangaDex workaround)
DNS blocks
In some cases, this block is effected via a domain name server (DNS) intentionally returning a bad IP address or no IP address. On Windows systems, this can be checked by:
- Opening the command line
- Running
nslookup mangadex.orgto query the IP address your DNS is returning - Comparing the result with the IP address given at https://dns.google/query?name=mangadex.org
If the results don't match, changing your DNS to use Google (8.8.8.8/8.8.4.4) or Cloudflare (1.1.1.1/1.0.0.1) should resolve this issue.
IP/domain blocks
In some cases, this block is effected by preventing all traffic bound for MangaDex from being passed along to its destination. In these cases, the simplest effective workaround is use of a virtual private network (VPN). Two free options recommended by MangaDex are Cloudflare One and ProtonVPN.
Security blocks
In some cases, security/antivirus software on your device or local router may be flagging MangaDex as a dangerous site and intentionally preventing access. This particular type of error may be indicated by a "Certificate/Security Error" or similar message, indicating MangaDex is 'unsafe'. McAfee Antivirus, and some models of TrendMicro and ASUS routers, are known to exhibit this behavior.
If you have the ability to whitelist sites, adding https://mangadex.org and https://*.mangadex.org to that list should resolve the issue.
Disabling the offending security measures is a more extreme option, and should be done only if you understand the associated risks.
If you don't have necessary system permissions to make these changes, you will need to use another device/network in order to access MangaDex.
Outdated software
Because of the requirements of the code on MangaDex, older versions of many browsers may display a "400: Unsupported Browser" error. The following are the oldest verified supported versions (as of June 2026):
- Brave 1.3
- Chrome 70
- Edge 104
- Firefox 80
- Opera 67
- Tor 12
- Vivaldi 2.11
iOS must be at least version 15.8, 16.4, or 17.2. Because versions of iOS prior to 18.2 use Safari as the engine for every browser and simply reskin, attempting to use a different browser on outdated iOS versions will not have an effect.
MangaDex is nominally accessible but behaving badly
Connection issues
If some pages (particularly chapter page images) refuse to load, resulting in a spinner persisting indefinitely in the middle of the page or a repeated 'failed to load image' message, first confirm the quality of your connection. A connection suffering from frequent dropouts or interruptions can cause these failures. Running an internet speed test can help identify these issues. Resolving them is beyond the ability of MangaDex support - that will need to be done from your end and may require contacting your ISP.
Browser issues
If your connection is good, the problem may be your browser. MangaDex is intended to be accessible on as many browsers as possible, but some older versions of browsers may lack certain functionality that MangaDex uses. If possible, make sure your browser has been updated to the latest stable release. See the 'Outdated software' section above for verified minimum versions of common browsers.
If another browser on your device is able to resolve the problematic page(s), or if the page(s) load in an incognito/private window, try clearing your cache for mangadex.org and refresh the page(s).
If clearing your cache fails to work, disable your extensions/plugins, restart your browser, and try again. If that works, re-enable your extensions/plugins one by one and refresh after each one to try and identify which is causing the problem.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, you can contact the #support channel on the MangaDex Discord and ask for assistance with a browser issue. Please have the following information available:
- A screenshot of your browser's console (F12 -> Console) if on desktop
- The link provided by https://www.whatsmybrowser.org/ when visited from the affected browser
As noted above, the MangaDex staff is mostly volunteers, and it can take 24 hours to receive a response. Please be patient.
